I live in Medellin now and I also lived in central Mexico for a few years. It’s the same there, Mexicans don’t wear shorts as they are considered too informal.

@AkJoel I would recommend try using white taxis and prepay in the airport. Use uber in the city and rarely. Reason: criminals signup for being Uber drivers and kidnap foreigners who come alone in those cars. My colleague from the platform this video is posted on - was kidnapped at the airport in Colombia, because Uber can’t guarantee security. White taxi can, especially prepaid, coz they are connected to the airport service and there is a visibility.

I stayed in Poblado in a high rise. It was a nice place but I enjoyed visiting Laureles, Manila, Envigado. I will likely stay in Envigado when I come back. I liked going to the language exchange at Barrio Sur Cafe Bar.

I liked La Frontera. When I wasin Medellin, I would start at Mall La Frontera on Sundays n the Avenue El Plobado walk. I loved the park there next to the mall.

Laureles has been my only home for more than 8 years and inside my apartment I have never felt the need for Air Conditioning and I've never broken a sweat walking the streets. But I'm in the higher part of Laureles West of 70, South of 44th Street that is definitely cooler than the low lying flat area East of La 70 around San Joaquin and Conquistadores which I immediately notice are a bit too hot for me as far as living there.

Look up the dish 'migos' or 'migaos', it may make sense once you do.

Avoid anything near poblado you WILL GET GRINGO TAXED

Great options. As much as I've visited Medellín, I have yet to stay in Poblado. I've always avoided it because I knew it was a more expensive tourist trap. However, Manila seems like a great option. Thanks for the info, will check it out!

This has turned into a political plot , gringos and tourist are just scapegoats for right wing politicians. Prostitution will not go anywhere if foreigners were gone. Sexual exploitation has been a persistent issue even before the tourism boom. Righties are just tryng to show off results on media going harsh towards gringos. Of course cant be denied there is another issues like gentrification but its how market works. If new buildings or affordable housing are not working is because local government wants so. Homebuilders in Medellin are also greedy.

Those larger, more "natural" city parks seem like a perfect place to get robbed. Lots of places to hide. Not too many people around, so nobody to help you out. Is it really worth it??
